Okay, I will admit! My first post was insanely LONG! Promise I will NEVER post something that long EVER again!

Everyone who knows me knows I like to party. As it is costumary in Brazil, my fiance's parents (who happen to be American) hosted an engagement party in our honor back in Indiana.

Everyone in the family contributed a little. This was my first DIY project starting with the invitations which were designed by a close friend and ending with the table set up (centerpieces, menus, place cards and candles)

The cake was picked out by my future mother in law at a local bakery and it was very tasty.

We didn't know if our plan A of having it outside was going to work because of the weather, but the rain started to pour just after dinner when everyone was ready for desset inside. 20 minutes later we were back out to enjoy the rest of the evening!

Wedding Planner: big save or big waste?

My story with my fiance starts like this:
He comes to Disney to work, I come to Disney from Brazil to have a good time and in one of those hot July days we meet at the parks. But thats only how we met. The story of how we ended up together is a whole other one and I will decide later when I will blog about it.

The important thing is, now we are engaged and with a set date on June 5th 2010. Throughout this whole planing process I've been subjected to all kinds of situations and came to a conclusion that getting married of course, is about you and the person you will be spending the rest of your life with BUT I can't ignore the fact that it has also been about learning who your real friends are. Hey, I'm not complaining...if life gives me an opportunity to just distance myself from those who are not there to support me, I'm okay with it!

Totally forgot to mention, but being a foreign comes with a great deal of advantages. For example: being able to bring insights on wedding traditions from other culture. The bad part about this is, you will be catching me making lots of spelling and maybe grammar mistakes. Oh well...I'm still learning!

So now that have introduced myself, I will proceed with what this blog is really about.

Right about a month after my fiance popped the question we decided it was time to start getting serious about planning this wedding. After watching so many wedding shows on tv the only thing I knew for a fact I wanted to have for my wedding was a wedding planner. Wedding planners are just the best invention on earth. They do all the hard and stressful work for you, while you sit back, relax and go use your precious time some other way. Or so I thought!

Maybe that would be truth for a laid back bride who's not a control freak! and I will admit with NO shame at all.I am a control freak!!!Has she taken some of the planning stress off my shoulders? Yes! Am I still stressed? Yes! It's really hard for me to leave my wedding at someone's hands without having total control over it. But it seems like this time I have no choice. I hired her, so now I will have to let it go!My wedding planner is a fun, outgoing lady who I adore. She's been able to show us venues which we'd never be able to find without her help, not to mention the good deals she got us with some vendors. The best part about having hired her so far is not having to deal with a bunch of different people over the phone or email. Any questions that pop up I go online, write her an email and she always gets back to me within 24hrs with an answers for my problem.

(We chose the Wyndham Orlando Resort to host our June wedding ceremony and reception)

Even though stress hasn't made a way out of my life I know having her there the day of, knowing how I want every specific detail done and DOING it for me will pay off every cent we are spending on her.

Other brides I know have come up to me saying hiring a wedding planner is a big waste of your money as whatever they charge for doing what they do can be done by the maid of honor, mother of the bride or anyone else involved with the wedding.

What do you think? Would you hire a professional wedding planner to handle your wedding or would you prefer applying that money towards something else?
